Mid Career Problems for efficient business leader?

What would a successful top level executive in mid 30s opt for as a career boost course. The guy i am talking about has proven expertise in managing IT start-ups and leading them to a million dollar revenue in 3-5 years. However he doesn't have the experience in a MNC. A MBA degree that he possesses doesn't take him far. Should he go for a certification course like SAP training? Any advice welcome.
